Hey - I know some of my readers come to this site for the eye-candy. :-)
However, now that I have your attention, I wanted to let you know that HRC has put out their 2011 Workplace Equality Index, identifying the good, the bad and the ugly in corporate America (as it relates to equality for the LGBT community).
This index is a useful tool as I believe that we don't always have enough information to know how to 'vote with our feet and with our money'.
For example, did you know that AFLAC, Colonial Penn, Northwest Mutual and Liberty Mutual all have the lowest workplace equality scores? You could choose to select from other insurance companies, such as Allstate, Aetna, Hartford Financial Services or New York Life?
They have listings in many categories such as health and beauty (Olay good, Noxzema bad); and Newsstand (BusinessWeek good, Wall Street Journal bad), just to name two.
I think this kind of information is really important in this day and age when we, as Americans, are continually being bombarded with advertisting information. We are guided (or at least, attempted to be guided) into almost every decision we make by big corporate America. The more information we have of this sort, the better we can use our money toward the people whose ideals closer match our own.
Basically the index assesses a company's corporate policiesas they relate to non-discrimination of LGBT individuals, diversity in the workplace, same sex partner benefits (healthcare, family leave, etc), and social
